Fleetwood Town Disability Team was formed in November 2010.
It was funded initially by a grant from Grassroots Funding and this was co-ordinated by Dave Mitchell who enabled us to move forward with his support and enthusiasm.
Fleetwood started off with 7 players however have now more than doubled this with the practice sessions on a Friday getting larger and larger.
After 6 months of preparation and training they played their first Ability League match in March 2011, playing against teams from Manchester United, Burnley and many others.
Fleetwood were on fire in their first season winning the double taking home the league Championship along with the 2011 League Cup.
Since then we have had to have another trophy cupboard built. The team won the National Tournament in Harrogate which features teams from all over the country including Jersey and two more Tournaments in Lytham and one in Burnley. They were then invited to play in the Annual Jersey Tournament and took home the cup in October 2102.
The team have worked really hard and their new season has started so watch out for 2013!
The inspiration and leadership of Manager Luca Lanzani has propelled the team forwards along with talented new coach Nathan Lowings. Onwards and Upwards!!
