Pre- Season
Penwortham Town under 18’s 1-4 Town Under 18s
Fleetwood travelled to Penwortham for this Pre season game with a strong squad and put on a good display against a team where many of the players had been together for eight or nine season.
However it was Fleetwood that looked more settled and composed and in the opening encounters passed the ball around well causing Penwortham defence plenty of problems. Unfortunately it was a mistake by the home team keeper which allowed Connor McGough to poke home the opener for Town.
Fleetwood then seemed to drop the tempo and were guilty of missing some excellent goal opportunities. However the second goal when it came was worth waiting for. Ryan Tanzer picked up the ball just inside the opposition half and his pace took him past the Penwortham full back and he delivered an excellent cross for the waiting Ogden whose powerful header easily beat the home team keeper. Scott Thompson and Adam Sumner both had good efforts on goal but Fleetwood could find that Third goal that would have killed the game off.
In the e second half Fleetwood came out with instruction to keep the ball and lift the tempo and that exactly what they did and for much of the half dominated the play.
However credit to Penwortham they never gave up chasing and against the run of play they scored the first goal of the half with a good header from a corner ball.
This seemed to kick start Fleetwood again and it wasn’t long until Sumner gave Fleetwood the two goal advantage again with a delightful left foot shot from 25yards.
Fleetwood wrapped up the game with a Josh Few header in the last few minutes.
Manager Mick Sumner said “I am pleased with the overall team display. We have plenty to work on and the players will take a little bit of time getting use to Fleetwood’s style of play."
