FLEETWOOD TOWN UNDER 18’S

FIXTURE        Poulton Town (Res) v Fleetwood Town U18's

SCORE             4 v 3

SCORERS        Henry Ogden. Jack Duggen.Scott Thompson

REPORT           First pre season for the Under 18’s and an excellent run out for the young players against an experienced Poulton team.

The starting first eleven players for Fleetwood were all selected from the new development programme. For most it was the first time they had played in a senior fixture. The pace and strength of the opposition caused few problems but the naivety of the young Fleetwood team especially from set pieces gave Poulton a comfortable 4 v 1 advantage at half time.

However the Fleetwood players listen to what was said at half time and every credit to them they went out and gave a very good second half performance creating numerous chances and showing some sublime touches of skill.

Manager Mike Sumner said “I was delighted with the lads effort and determination. We were concerned that the players could be intimidated by the older and more experienced opposition but the players proved that they can cope with the step-up.
In the first half we were playing against a strong wind and Poulton took their chances well. In the second half our movement and speed caused them problems.
