 Youth football at Fleetwood Town

Player Development Programme
Fleetwood Town currently has over 20 players taking part in the club's full time Player Development Programme which is run in association with Blackpool & The Fylde College.
Started in July this year, the club offered places to 25 school leavers, who were successful at trials held at Highbury Stadium in February and April 2009.
The two year scheme provides full time education at the college's Bispham Campus, with the scholars working towards a BTEC National Diploma in Sport Qualification (equivalent to 3 A levels). In addition to the academic side they also participate in three, two hour training session an each week. These sessions are currently delivered by Fleetwood's first team manager Mickey Mellon (UEFA A qualified), and first team player John Hills (Working towards UEFA B qualification).
The squad competes in the Football Conference Youth Alliance North Section (an Under 19 league), playing each Wednesday afternoon. Home games kick off at 2pm, and are played at club's training ground at Collins Park, Jepson Way, Blackpool.
In addition to the above competition, opportunities are available to play in the North West Youth Alliance which is a Sunday afternoon league. In addition, the club’s youth players may also be selected to play in the Lancashire FA Floodlight League, a midweek under 18 competition.
The club also competes in the FA's national youth competition, the FA Youth Cup.
Some players will also have opportunities to play for the club's Reserve side and to take part in first team training sessions.
The ultimate goal for each player is to earn a full time contract with the club after completion of the programme.
The club are running trials on Monday 21 December 2009 for candidates considering the programme once they leave school next year. Places are limited so please call Steve Curwood on 07773 027706 to book your place or for further information.
Youth Team
In addition to the player development programme the club also has around a further 10 players who are not on the player development programme but still take part in evening training sessions and compete in the various youth competitions.
This group are in effect '2nd year' youth players, who were with the club last season, prior to the launch of the college arrangement.
