FLEETWOOD, Lancs, 22 September, 2008
Fleetwood Town Under 18 3-1 Wyre Juniors
Lancashire Cup
Sunday 21st September 2008
This was the first official game of the season. Only 11 players were available out of the squad of 18 due to work and other commitments. The Town players knew each man had a job to and needed to work hard. Wyre Juniors did their job in the first half and stopped us playing. Fleetwood went 1-0 down inside 20 minutes and that scoreline lasted into the break.
Fleetwood raised their game in the second period and quality started to show through. Fleetwood equalised shortly after the restart and this lifted the team on. Ten minutes in and Town has taken the lead. A spectacular goalmouth scramble needed five attempts, with the Wyre keeper saving shot after shot, before the ball finally ended in the back of the net. Fleetwood grew in strength sealed the win in the closing minutes with a third. Grant Dell was voted man of the match.
