FTFCFLEETWOOD, Lancs, 14 April, 2009

Under 12 Boys
Thornton Cleveleys 1-3 Fleetwood Town
Thursday 9th April

Fleetwood Town went into the game with only 11 players available due to injuries and holidays.

Playing with a strong wind behind them Town had all the possession and chances and took the lead after 10 minutes.  Callum Ellis who turned the defender on the right, cut inside and struck a fierce shot home across the keeper.  Fleetwood won a corner on 17 minutes after a Robinson shot was saved and he took the corner himself. The ball finally came out Steve Haugan on the edge of the box and he smashed home from 20 yards.

Against the wind the visitors found it hard going and Thornton pegged back from a corner. Town keeper Sam Jensen managed a hand on the ball just couldn't keep it out.  Fleetwood went further in front as a long goal kick was helped on by Ellis.  Thornton cleared but only to Robinson who hammered from 25 yards into the roof of the net with his weaker leg.

Manager Pete Reader said “Josh Robinson and James Lydon were excellent in the centre of the midfield, but the man of the match goes to centre half Reece Young (pictured). ”

U14 Girls
Wilpshire Girls 1-15 Fleetwood Town
Thursday 9th April 2009

After numerous postponements with this fixture Fleetwood finally travelled to Wilpshire in Blackburn for an evening encounter.  Three points were needed in this fixture and with Fleetwood again down to a depleted squad they began with excellent passing and moving.

The back four consisting of Chloe Holme, Steph Massie, Jess Smith, and Vic Lowe didn’t have much trouble containing the Wilpshire attacks. It wasn’t long before Cath Robinson who dominated the midfield slipping home the first. Rebecca Harper was replaced by Sarah Fay after a few minutes due to an ankle injury. The Fay and Brown attack worked well and finished with ease on numerous occasions.

The Fleetwood midfield worked hard and supported each other outstandingly, with Demi Parker bossing and playing passes out to the two wingers Emily McCarthy and Rebecca Lowe who were giving the Wilpshire defence a torrid time. By half time Fleetwood were 6 – 0 up and cruising.

Changes were made in the interval and saw Demi Parker switching with Lottie Walsh in goal. It was Wilpshire who started the first few minutes of the second half the strongest and pressed a few times causing the Fleetwood defence to concentrate more. The Fleetwood attack started to take hold and became one way traffic, with Meg Brown completing a hat-trick, joined also by Cath Robinson and Emily McCarthy.  Wilpshire still battled hard and due to a Fleetwood defensive error were rewarded with a soft goal, but this was a game now beyond their reach and it was damage limitation against a domineering Fleetwood side.

With goals coming also from Sarah Fay, Steph Massie, Rebecca Lowe this was to be a good outing for Fleetwood and prepares them for a tougher home encounter with Woodbank.
