Fleetwood Town 0-1 Lytham YMCA
Sunday 5th April 2009
A crucial game for both sides began with early pressure from Lytham. The Fleetwood back four of Chloe Holme, Demi Parker, Steph Massie and Victoria Lowe were up to the task and although Em McCarthy was the busier of the two goalkeepers she was more than able. The Fleetwood midfield began to make themselves felt with Em Hanson and Rebecca Lowe troubling the opposition out on the right, whilst Cath Robinson put in another fine performance, winning ball all over the park and pressing the opposition at every opportunity.
An early injury to Em Hanson put an end to a promising start, but Sarah Fay made an immediate impact, linking with Jess Smith to probe the Lytham defence. Lytham were always a threat in attack and after winning a throw upfield, a superb cross into the box was hammered home, with the Fleetwood goalkeeper having no chance.
Fleetwood were still confident and matched Lytham in every area of the pitch. Meg Brown and Rebecca Harper pushed forward and had several half chances on goal. Lytham played a high line, compressing the play into the middle third and too many of the Fleetwood attacks were thwarted by the offside flag.
In the second half, play remained balanced and with a kinder run of the ball Fleetwood could well have equalised. At the other end Em McCarthy pulled off a number of outstanding saves to keep the score at one nil, whilst Chloe Holme demonstrated how much her game has improved, stifling the Lytham attacks down their left wing. Lytham continued to use a high back four, with the keeper acting as sweeper, but tactical switches at half time by the Fleetwood coach gave the home side a lot more chances. Lottie Walsh came on for Jess Smith with a few minutes to go but had little time to make any impact.
With five minutes to go Fleetwood carved out a chance and Demi Parker lobbed a rising ball towards the top corner. With the goalkeeper beaten the ball passed over the bar to safety. This proved to be Fleetwood’s last opportunity with Lytham running the clock down. Another even game between the two sides ended in victory for Lytham and Fleetwood have been left to think about what might have been.

The "A" team were missing key defender Reece McColgen through a knee injurie.
The "A" got off to a great start and bossed the game, Jack Webster was making his debut on the Left wing and didnt dissapoint, providing some great crosses into the box. Stephen Abbott scored 2 and then was took down in the area, Penalty! keeper saved but Jordan Salthouse was there to tap it in. Abbott scored another, so that Fleetwood Totally dominated the 1st half. Foxhall responded early with a goal in the second period and added to that later on but the A's had plenty of chances, mainly through Purdon and Webster. Jack Webster, his first game for us and he showed great determination and was unlucky not to score.

Fishers Field
The "B" team were missing Thomas Amos, a key defender.
Despite some great chances, it was Foxhall who would go in at half time 1-0 up, The B's worked the ball well but just couldn’t finish their moves off. Town woke up in the second half and completed the double over Foxhall with goals Andreco, Naylor and 2 powerful strikes from Hall. Lewis Allen, worked hard throughout and gave his all stood out in a great team performance.
