FTFCFLEETWOOD, Lancs,  February, 2009

Fleetwood Town U15
1 - 0 AFC Blackpool U15
Sunday 1st February 2009

Steve Rankine gets the winner as the town lads beat the top of the table team for only their second defeat this season 1 - 0 at home on King Georges

Mikey McAlpine threaded the ball through the AFC defence to set up Steve Rankine to put Town into the lead after just 20 minutes.  AFC did have a lot of possession but couldn’t  really threaten the Fleetwood goal. Anything put to keeper Dave Riley was dealt with comfortably. His distribution and handling was excellent and made a couple of game winning saves in the process.

It was a good solid performance as AFC tried to get back into the game in the second half.  Team work and resilience from Town frustrated their opponents and they looked unsettled as time went on. Mikey McAlpine went through on goal but finished with his shot firing into the side netting.

Dave Riley made two excellent saves and pushed a shot over the bar with a finger tip save.  There was also a good reaction save which he pushed out for a corner.
The Fleetwood defence marshalled themselves and soaked up any pressure put to them.

Nick grey came on for the injured Jack Parker and done his job well.  It was an excellent win for the Fleetwood Town Juniors with some excellent handling and shot stopping.
Dave Riley was Fleetwood Town man of the match but overall a very good result and a very good team performance.. Solid contributions were made by Mikey McAlpine, Lee Gallagher and Ash McGough.
