Great Harwood U11 Girls
4-4
Fleetwood Town U11 Girls
Sunday 1st February 2009

Fleetwood Town continued their impressive run with a well deserved draw against unbeaten Great Harwood. In freezing, blustery conditions it was the home team who got off to the better start when they went in front.  A well taken volley left Fleetwood keeper Gabi Aston with no chance. Fleetwood soon started to impose themselves on the game, and after a spell of pressure a long range effort from Anna Reynolds brought the teams level. A few minutes later, a long ball down the middle from Reynolds, found Lucy Johnson one on one with the defender.  A smart turn and finish put Fleetwood in front. Unfortunately the lead wasn’t to last too long as Great Harwood found space behind the defence to draw the game level 2-2.

Fleetwood stated the second half brightly and continued to press the Great Harwood defence. This was rewarded when in-form striker Lucy Johnson cut in from the by line and scored from what looked like an impossible angle. Fleetwood went further in front when Anna Reynolds surged down the left wing and hit an unstoppable shot past the stranded keeper.

At this point Fleetwood looked set to record their first away win of the season. This wasn’t to be when a cross-shot caught the wind and looped over the unfortunate Gabi Aston with only 7 minutes remaining. In the closing minutes a fierce shot from Anna Reynolds hit the post and fell to a Great Harwood player on the edge of her box, she carried the ball the length of the field and scored the equaliser. This was hard luck on Fleetwood and they really didn’t deserve it. A good team effort.
