Fleetwood Town Reserves 0 Morecambe Reserves 5
Pre-season Friendly
Wednesday July 25th 2007

I doubt if a more one sided half will be seen at Highbury all season than the first half in this game as Town’s inexperienced back four were constantly exposed by  the Morecambe forwards. Fleetwood were trailing after only a minute when the Morecambe winger waltzed past the statuesque Michael Tallentire to pull the ball back for an easy tap in. Tallentire was involved in the second goal also, this time he was blatantly pulled back but the Referee waved play on and allowed the goal to stand. The third followed soon after, the defender dispossessed and the visitor’s number nine allowed Mike Hale no chance with the finish. The fourth had a hint of off side about it but, to the forward’s credit, he finished it very well.

Changes were made at half time and, all of a sudden, Morecambe had a game on their hands. Mark Davis, Joel Cowell, Jamie Wright and Dax Hoogerwerf were introduced and Fleetwood had more purpose about them. Cowell twice went close and Scott Davies, in the Morecambe goal, was by far the busiest of the two keepers. However, Fleetwood’s defensive weaknesses came back to haunt them and indecision by Christian Dust resulted in Morecambe’s fifth. Once again Steve Edwards was looking at new players and he couldn't have been too pleased with what he saw in the first half. The second half, Fleetwood were far more competitive, with Jamie Wright and Mark Davis the pick of the players.

Squad: Hale, Buschini, Harris, Dust, Tallentire, Webster, Perz, Nicholson, Watkinson, De Blanc, Rimmington, Cowell, Hoogerwerf, Davis and Wright.
