Lancit Haulage Lancashire League

24th September 2007
Goals: FTFC – Jamie Wright, Joel Cowell, Chris Watkinson

Town maintained their 100% away record with a strong performance in blustery conditions. The score line does not really do justice to the dominance Fleetwood had over their Cumbrian hosts.

Jamie Wright opened the scoring after only four minutes with a thunderous shot that clipped the under side of the bar as it went in. With the strong wind behind them Fleetwood peppered the Barrow goal, but were stunned by a rare sortie by the home side, who grabbed an equaliser after 15 minutes. Town responded with a series of attacks and, but for poor finishing, would not havef had to wait till the half hour mark to once again take the lead. Fleetwood's second goal was worth the wait though, Anthony Warwick producing a dazzling piece of wing play to slip the ball to Joel Cowell, who in turn skipped past the trailing Barrow defenders. Cowell finished superbly well and his game throughout the night was of a very high quality. Warwick was replaced after 25 minutes with a slight hamstring strain. If Barrow's first goal came as a shock, the second equaliser was even more so. This time Guy Heffernan, as opposed to Chris Dust for the first goal, was easily beaten down the flank and Barrow grabbed their second.

The anticipated onslaught by the home side never came and Fleetwood were in command through out the half. It seemed only a matter of time before they scored but they had to wait until the final 15 minutes to grab a deserved winner. The ball fell invitingly at the feet of Chris Watkinson and he crashed the ball in from 10 yards. Straight after the goal Fleetwood keeper Mark Smith was involved in a sickening collision with team mate Dust. After lengthy treatment Smith continued with what turned out to be a fractured hand. Town had a couple of frights towards the end, but held out to take the spoils.T he game also saw the welcome return of Mark Butler who came on for the last half hour.
