Goals: FTFC – Steve

Fleetwood
Town rounded off a prolific week with another comprehensive victory. And it was
the predatory Alex Taylor who again dominated the goal feast; this latest brace
taking his tally of goals to six in the last three games. Credit
too to manager Tony Greenwood who since re-shaping his line up into a 3-5-2
formation has been rewarded for alchemy with three wins and 13 goals.
Fleetwood, unchanged for the third match in succession, carried on where they
had left off in Tuesday’s 6-3 demolition of Leek Town, playing some delightful
football to enter the half time interval with a two goal lead.
Steve
Foster opened the scoring with a clever lob over the head of the advancing
Matlock goalkeeper and minutes later the Town fans in the Percy Ronson Stand were hollering for a penalty when Taylor was
flattened after getting his head to a cross by Kieran Walmsley. After lengthy
treatment, Taylor returned to the action and promptly doubled Fleetwood’s
advantage. And what a glorious team goal it was, the outstanding Jamie
Milligan spraying a pass out wide to Walmsley who ran on the ball and after
taking a quick look to size up his options delivered a delicious cross for
Taylor to head the ball past the helpless keeper.
Fleetwood
keeper Danny Hurst made a fine save just before the break and the home side
were grateful to their last line of defence on two further occasions in the
second half as the visitors strove hard to reduce the arrears. But there was no
denying the voracious Taylor and with 15 minutes remaining, Taylor nodded the
ball home from close range after skipper Ricky Mercer had headed a Milligan
free kick across the goalmouth.
This
was another excellent result for Fleetwood against talented opposition. Hurst,
Taylor, Walmsley, Milligan and sponsors man of the match Martin Moran all
impressed whilst Foster becomes more effective with every game and is now
demonstrating just what an important player he will be for Fleetwood this
season.
