Fleetwood Town v Solihull Moors
Blue Square North
Saturday, 13th March 2010
By David Mitchell
Fleetwood Town entertain in-form Solihull Moors on Saturday, 13th March, hoping to complete a double over the West Midlands outfit. Town began their Blue Square North campaign on 8th August with a 2-1 victory at Damson Park. Goals from Mike Wilde and Jamie Milligan ensured a good start to the campaign.
Although Solihull Moors now lie 11th in the table after the Farsley readjustment, their recent form is second to none and has seen them rise noticeably to a current best position for the campaign. Moors have recorded five wins and a draw in their last six fixtures, including convincing victories on the road at Hinckley United (3-0) and Redditch United (4-1).
Other wins in this sequence were over top ten teams Corby Town (3-0) and Eastwood Town (2-1) with a 0-0 draw completing the run last weekend at AFC Telford. During this period, Solihull Moors have scored 15 goals and conceded just two. Micky Mellon and his management team will not be underestimating their ability, both in attack and defence.
Nicknamed ‘The Moors’, Solihull Moors F.C. was founded in 2007, following the merger of Moor Green and Solihull Borough. Their manager, Bob Faulkner, is the former Moor Green manager.
Fifteen different players have appeared on their score sheet this season with Marvin Johnson, Ryan Beswick and Junior English leading the way with 4 goals each. By comparison, Town’s leading scorer Adam Warlow is currently on 18, just one behind the division’s top marksman, Blyth Spartans’ Paul Brayson.
Moors will be hoping that the re-signing of journeyman Aaron Farrell will help boost their goal output. Farrell, signed following a short loan spell with Blue Square South Worcester City, was on the Kidderminster Harriers bench in both FA Cup fixtures against Town back in October.
For Town, this is their nineteenth home fixture of the campaign and they currently have the most number of home wins (13) and goals scored at home (52) in the league. They will be keen to get back to winning ways at Highbury following their only league defeat at home, against Northwich Victoria on 27th February.
It will be a first opportunity for the Cod Army to see Lee Thorpe, Town’s new signing from Darlington, who made an impressive start on debut at Hinckley United last weekend.
The club will be trialling a giant LED screen at the match. Located on the east side of the ground, next to the scoreboard, the screen will provide a match-day service which, it is hoped, will become a regular feature at home games in the future.
