Farsley Celtic no more
11 March 2010
Farsley Celtic has been disbanded after the club's administrators rejected a number of improved offers from potential new backers.
Their expulsion from the Football Conference was expected to occur later this week after they failed to fulfil their last three fixtures against AFC Telford, Workington Town and Harrogate Town.
The Blue Square North side entered administration at the start of the season with reported debts of £750,000 and a ten point deduction.
The Football Conference has a number of options open to them regarding the Yorkshire club’s results this term but have yet to announce a decision. One option is to repeat the process they followed after Chester City ran into difficulty, albeit for different specific reasons than Farsley. The Cheshire clubs’ results were erased from the Blue Square Premier table and points adjusted accordingly.
That move would leave Town just one point ahead of second spot Southport who have two games in hand. Fleetwood collected six points from Farsley with home and away victories. Southport only managed to record an away win having been defeated at home by the doomed club.
Town chief executive Steve Curwood said “I hope teh Confernce look at awarding teams Farsley have failed to fulfil fixtures against, and those they were due to play 3 points, as they can do. This I feel is more appropriate considering that we are just 9 games short of completing the season.
"The Football Conference has a difficult decision to make. The Conference can make the ruling which they think best suits the competition and have a number of options open to them.
“Fleetwood Town will continue to battle for points to maintain our lead at the top of the Conference North.”
