Sumner features in Italian tournemant
2 March 2010
Fleetwood Town U18 skipper Adam Sumner travelled to Rome with the English Colleges FA national squad. The team made the journey to Italy in February to take part in the "Caput Mundi" youth tournament.
Eliminated during the group stages the English team faced tough opposition and lost 2-1 against Slovenia. Sumner came on at half time and then played for 90 minutes in the defeat to Romania. The last game of the tournament was goalless and then lost on penalties to Greece with Sumner again playing the full game.
“I played in all three games. We lost to Slovenia when I came on for the second half. We wanted a better result but it was a good game. The second match was a bad result and we deserved more from the game against Greece.
“I was used in three different places - left back, centre mid and left back. That provided me with good experience. They were all tough games against national under 19 sides.
“The games were played on 3G pitches and the facilities good. The weather was warm but it hail stoned for the Rumania game.
“Playing in different positions and against tougher opposition did me well.
“I’m in the squads against Japan next month at Lilleshall and we then play Irish Colleges in April. There’s a further trip to Italy later in the year and that squad is announced in May.” |
