Trio added to Town strike force
29 July 2010

Fleetwood Town supporters will be relishing the prospect of abundant goals as the club embark on their first season in the Blue Square Bet Premier.  Manager Micky Mellon added no fewer than three recognised front men to his attacking options during the last week.

Brazilian-born striker Magno Vieira joined his new teammates at the Woodlands training ground on Thursday and was also joined by two trialists who have impressed Mellon.

Wayne Curtis and Mark Beesley have both done enough in front of the Town boss to warrant contracts after figuring in pre-season games.

Veteran Curtis comes to Highbury after a lengthy career at League 2 Morecambe where he spent more than a decade.

“I was at Morecambe for 12 seasons and played in several positions in the last couple of years but spent most of my time as a striker.

“I’ve just signed for Fleetwood and I’m now looking forward to getting onto the pitch to start my scoring in the league.  I’ve come to a good club who are really going for it this year.  I can’t wait to start.”

Beesley, 29, arrived at Highbury from Conference rivals Cambridge United and brings a plenty of know-how from non-league’s top flight.

“I’ve played most of my career in the Conference National and I bring that experience with me.

“I glad the deal as been done after spending the last few weeks with the club.  It’s never easy coming on trial but I marked my second game with a goal and done enough to be signed.”

Meanwhile, Vieira joined the Town squad for the first time on Thursday after arriving back in the UK from overseas.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge at Fleetwood and can’t wait to get started.  Fleetwood are looking like a strong team so I should be able to do the same or more as I did last season.“

The full Fleetwood Town squad will face a good test this weekend as they entertain a Bolton Wanderers XI on Friday evening at Highbury (7:45pm) with admission £7 adults and £4 concessions.

The squad then travel to Northwich Victoria on Saturday for a 3pm kick-off against Andy Preece’s side.
