Summary
Fleetwood Town allowed visitors Alfreton Town to take a two goal lead before substitute Mike Wilde and centre half Steve McNulty rescued a point at Highbury.
Full-back Andy Todd put the visitors in front just 5 minutes after the restart when the home defence failed to clear their lines.
New signing Steven Torpey came off the bench for his debut but couldn’t prevent Damien Reeves doubling the Alfreton lead, with the Fleetwood defence again leaving questions unanswered.
Torpey, with fellow substitute Mike Wilde, went on to change the shape of the game and. Wilde pounced to pull back Town back when Torpey’s shot blasted off the left hand post on 68 minutes.
The home side were determined to force the equaliser and took the upper hand for the remainder of the game. With 10 minutes left on the clock, man of the match Alan Wright produced a first time cross and Wilde looked to have doubled his tally but Paddy Gamble scooped the low ball off the line.
The pressure paid off for Fleetwood when Gamble failed to deal with a high ball and McNulty grabbed the equaliser 3 minutes from time to maintain his side’s unbeaten home record.
The 1,297 Cod Army should have celebrated taking all three points in added time if Jamie McGuire could have made the most of Sean Clancy’s piercing ball into the box.
