Summary
INTO MONDAY'S FA CUP DRAW
Fleetwood Town manager Micky Mellon celebrated one year in charge at Highbury with a cup win over Blue Square North rivals Farsley Celtic. Town enjoyed an away victory two weeks ago when they visited the Throstle’s Nest but it was the West Yorkshire side that went ahead this afternoon.
Home keeper Danny Hurst was beat by a Roy Stammer blast from outside the box on six minutes. The shot found its way into the right-hand stanchion and took the home side by surprise.
Fleetwood recovered two minutes later thanks a Mike Wilde strike. Jamie Milligan sent in a corner and Jamie McGuire fired in a blocked shot. Wilde was left to send home his sixth of the campaign from the rebound.
Lee Ellington proved lively for Farsley and forced Hurst to head clear from outside his own box on the quarter hour mark. The Farsley man then had another one-on-one with Hurst, this time firing into the side net after the keeper covered the angle.
Skipper Milligan played a part putting Town into the lead on the stroke of half time. His free-kick into the area was met by man of the match Steve McNulty who powered his header home.
The Highbury side put their name in Monday’s draw thanks to an Adam Warlow header on 58 minutes. McGuire’s run through the middle supplied the strike with a looping cross and Warlow equalled Wilde’s tally of six for the season. |
