The Lancashire Sports Awards have been developed in partnership with each of Lancashire's local authorities in order to celebrate sporting achievement and showcase best practice throughout the County. The Awards aim to pay tribute to those, young and old, that show dedication to perform at the highest level or those who work tirelessly to support individuals or clubs week in, week out, for the love of sport.
Each Local Authority in Lancashire hosts its own awards competition and seeks nominations in several categories including Coach of the Year and Young Volunteer of the Year.
Melissa, 18, was put forward by the Wyre Borough Council team and the award is made to young people who have given up their free time to volunteer in sport.
The FA Level Two coach oversees Fleetwood Town's popular Saturday Morning and School Holiday Clubs and has recently taken up a further position with the club providing coaching in local schools.
Melissa said "It's great to be recognised in this way. I'm very grateful for all the support and guidance I receive from the football club. Coaching children and seeing their enjoyment is a worthy pastime."
The next School Holiday Club run by Melissa is during the Christmas holidays and takes place from Monday 21st to Wednesday 23rd December. The cost is £25 for all three days or £10 each single day. To book call John Lemon 07970 557697.
